Order them at Roots, which is in the East Village. The eatery serves lunch and dinner daily, and is open from 11 a.m. to midnight or later on weekends.
Patrons are drawn here by more than just the food. The beautiful interior includes upscale seating and an extensive, full bar stocked with more than 70 Midwest brews. There is also space for parties of all sorts.
Now back to those homemade mozzarella sticks. They are made with garlic-herbed bread crumbs and housemade fresh cheese. These award-winning sticks are the most popular item on the appetizer list — and maybe even then entire menu!
The restaurant is also known for serving up Quad City-style pizza. This lesser-known Illinois pie has a nutty flavor to the crust, somewhat spicy sauce, and the toppings are baked under the cheese. Additionally, the pizza is cut into strips.
