W. George Metz, an Illinois native and travel enthusiast, set his sights on building an amazing home in the small town of Quincy in 1900. He was inspired by the architecture he saw on his many trips, and wanted to bring a piece of Europe home to the Midwest. The result was the stunning Villa Kathrine, still a beautiful sight to see today!
It is situated on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, and the views are stunning. Sunsets at Villa Kathrine cannot be topped.
The home fell into disrepair. For decades, the once beautiful castle was left largely uncared for as it was passed around from owner to owner.
