The Lincoln New Salem Historic Site is a reconstruction of the village of New Salem where Abraham Lincoln lived for about six years. This living museum immerses guests in the 1800s by teaching them how people survived during Lincoln's time.
Taking place October 5-7, 2018, this historic site will host a candlelight tour of the grounds that is like nothing you've ever experienced. This is the only way you can enjoy this old world establishment in the dark.
Your tour can begin as early as 7 p.m. with guests being asked to depart at 9 p.m. each night. It is free and open to the public as are all the fun festivities that take place here throughout the year.
During the two hour event, guests can enjoy the full 700 acres of log cabins and statues that represent this long-gone time. Actors in period clothing help facilitate the experience and teach visitors about what it was like to live in a world without electricity or modern plumbing.
Along the candlelight tour, guests will find gingerbread and apple cider refreshments at the Rutledge Tavern. All tours at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site are self-guided.
This eerie fall event is perfect for history lovers who enjoy a good nighttime walk. General hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Day or night, this Abraham Lincoln attraction is one of the best.
