I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
When the weather gets warm and the sun is shining, what do many of us want to do? Answer: spend time outdoors, of course! If you’re looking to maximize your time in the great outdoors, one of the best places to go is Zion, a stunning lake town in Illinois. Located along Lake Michigan, there’s perhaps a no better place to spend time during the warm weather months.
The city of Zion is located just north of Chicago in Lake County, Illinois. Approximately 24,000 people reside here and it's easy to see why!
Set along the shoreline of Lake Michigan, Zion offers plenty of gorgeous scenery for all to enjoy. Come here during the warmer months to explore the area via hiking trails and walks along the beach.
Hosah Park is part of the Zion Park District. It's an ideal spot for viewing flora and fauna and for birdwatching. Take a stroll along the boardwalk or the paved walkway.
A popular park for birdwatching, you can spot a variety of species like hawks, upland sandpipers, and American bitterns at North Dunes Nature Preserve. There are also numerous plant and animal species found here.
The 4,160-acre Illinois Beach State Park is a popular place for swimming, boating, hiking, fishing, biking, and picnicking. Camping is also available from April 1 through December 30. And you'll find 6.5 miles of Michigan Lake shoreline here.
