Ope! From the rural cornfields of DeKalb County, Linze is an Illinois native and true Midwestern gal who can make a mean bonfire and whip up a perfect marshmallow salad. Since 2014, her bylines and photography have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Magazine, Chicago Sun-Times, and Block Club Chicago/DNAinfo Chicago, Only in Your State, and more. She has interviewed Dolly Parton, written about beloved diners along historic Route 66, visited the last Rainforest Cafe in the Illinois, and reviewed luxurious English manor-inspired hotels. Whether it's writing about a local gem or world-renowned establishment, Linze brings a heartwarming and historical perspective to each story, using facts, wit, and personal experience to impress upon readers the importance of culture, food, travel, and all things local. Her favorite destinations in Illinois include Starved Rock State Park, Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood, the charming small town of Sycamore, and historic Rosehill Cemetery. When she's not writing or photographing, Linze enjoys gardening, spending time with her husband and pets, cooking, baking, and grilling, and relaxing with trashy TV.

When you’re headed for vacation, Illinois has tons of great places to stay. From the affordable to the romantic, the best places to stay in Illinois often depend on your individual needs and preferences, and fortunately, there’s rarely a need to compromise. Personally, the more historic, the better — I love an older home with great bones and lots of charm, plus modern amenities so I can get the best of both worlds. In fact, this gorgeous vacation home rental in Shelbyville, Illinois is going on my bucket list right now.
Located in Shelby County in East Central Illinois near the Kaskaskia River, this stunning, stately 2,500-square-foot home is a luxurious look into the past, packed with everything you need for a VIP getaway.
The home begins at $270 per night and can accommodate up to 10 guests across its five bedrooms. Bring that total up to 11 if you count your dog, which is allowed to join you here!
A vaulted ceiling and exposed beams allow for plenty of space and light in the dining area, which has a kitchen, tables, fireplace, and conversation seating.
The kitchen even has an additional prep room, making it easy for everyone to pitch in for a home-cooked meal. Outside, you'll also find a grill with all the barbecuing tools you'll need.
Throughout the house you'll find several cozy seating spots where you can enjoy the home's Xbox One console, board games, or movies from one of the five TVs. Other amenities include laundry facilities on two floors, Ring doorbell cameras, Wi-Fi and a printer, and three luxury bathrooms that will make you feel like you're at a 5-star resort.
Rooms are all spacious and decorated beautifully, with statement light fixtures, large rugs, artwork, and a plethora of pillows for maximum pampering. Bed sizes range from Queen to King, meaning you'll have more than enough space to stretch out.
You would find me in the backyard, however, where the private heated pool and hot tub are. The pool patio also showcases sunbathing chairs and conversational seating, and the pool lights up at night. Add in some grilling, a glass of wine by the fire table, and a fresh-cooked meal on the patio, and I'm absolutely sold.
