Maybe the best junk food around is fries. Crispy on the outside, with a nice snap–hopefully covered in some great toppings (although ketchup is okay, too). These eight restaurants in Illinois have some of the best fries for you to satisfy that fry craving.
1. Edzo's Burger Shop
Edzo's (Evanston) has tons of unique fries--like Merkt's cheddar fries, Italian beef gravy fries, and extra spicy fries. We're partial to the garlic fries (with garlic parsley butter) pictured here.
2. BIG and Little's
Big and Little's (Chicago) is known for their outrageous fry offerings--like foie gras fries. What? But sometimes you just want chili cheese fries (which they do well).
3. Jody's Hot Dogs
Listen, anything covered in cheese is darn good. This Joliet joint might not look like much but they are serving some KILLER fries. And dogs. But you asked my opinion about fries, and these are the bees knees,
4. Black Dog Smoke and Ale House
Known for their spectacular barbecue, this Urbana restaurant also serves fries. We really like the sweet potato fries for a nice change of pace. They provide that perfect bit of sweetness against an otherwise savory meal.
5. Al's #1 Italian Beef
You go to Al's for their great Italian beef sandwiches, but you're selling yourself short if you don't get the fries. They are super crispy and we won't judge if you dip them into the beef drippings.
6. Paradise Pup
Who knew Des Plaines has one of the best restaurants from which to get fries? Only Guy Fieri and the millions of people who watch him at home. But yeah, they have some awesome fries--three layers, to be exact. Really, they could be their own meal, but you best be getting a hot dog along with it.
7. Portillo's
Most of us go to Portillo's for their excellent hot dogs and burgers. But they have some amazing crinkle fries in their own right. We love them with burgers or all by their lonesome.
8. bopNgrill
Kimchi french fries...what? Yeah, bopNgrill (Chicago) does classic American food with a Korean twist. In other words, it's spicy. You'll love these fries--spicy, and really a meal all on their own.
