Times have definitely been tough over the last few years for job seekers, whether they have formal training or not. Fortunately, things seem to be recovering. If you’re looking for a job, Illinois is a great place to head. Here are ten Illinois towns where–statistically–your chances of being employed are higher.
1. Wilmette
If you're living in Wilmette, you're balling with a median household income of 130K. And if you want to avoid unemployment, your chances are best here. The town isn't large, but there are a number of strong, local businesses.
2. Oswego
Oswego has really grown in recent years, and the people moving in have fairly high incomes. The town has done a nice job with economic development, putting in some industrial parks and planning for more development in the future.
3. Park Ridge
If you want to work for a great school district, you're in the right place. Choose from the Maine Township High School District or the Park-Ridge Niles School District. Another major employer is the Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
4. Plainfield
Plainfield was once mostly cornfields, but it is really been developed over the last ten years or so, with many major employers moving into the area. There are also powerhouses such as Diageo Global Supply and Mid-States Warehouse that employ loads of people.
5. Vernon Hills
Vernon Hills is just north of Chicago and is where many people flock to shop. You won't have much trouble finding work, and people with jobs are moving here because it is a nice place to live. Major employers include American Hotel Register and CDW Computer Centers.
6. Naperville
Speaking of expansion, boy, has Naperville taken off. There are plenty of great employers to choose from, such as Edward Hospital, Alcatel-Lucent, and Nicor Gas. You'll make a nice salary, with a median household income of $105K.
7. Northbrook
Just north of Chicago, Northbrook has lots of amenities and ample opportunities to work. Allstate Insurance Company employs a ton of people, in addition to Kraft and Baxter. If you love Crate and Barrel, you're in luck--its headquartes are in Northbrook as well.
8. Highland Park
Highland Park residents earn one of the top salaries in the country and also the unemployment is LOW. There are plenty of strong, small businesses to choose from. Highland Park makes extra effort to support local businesses by providing services such as mentoring. Having Ravinia in town makes it attractive, too.
9. Streamwood
Streamwood has some serene locations but the population growth really has taken off. But the jobs are still decent. Major employers include Behavioral Health Center, Ace Coffee Bar and Super Target.
10. Bartlett
In the northwest part of the state, Bartlett has really exploded with many people flocking here. They bring high incomes with them, earning around $94K per year per household. If you love teaching or parks, this is a great place to launch a career. Bartlett Park District and School District U-46 are wonderful places to launch a career.
