For many Illinoisans, that answer is neither. Those are the Chicago teams that much of the north roots for, but down in the southern regions, you're likely to find a good deal of St. Louis Cardinals fans.

Not all Illinoisans love deep-dish pizza. Again, that's a Chicago thing that doesn't apply to all of us (or even all Chicagoans). We're fine with a hand-tossed, thin crust, or Quad City-style pie.

As soon as you tell someone you're from Illinois, this is the first question you'll get. While Chicago is home to millions of people, it only takes up a small segment of the state.

Out-of-staters get so hung up on that place. Again, Illinois is a large state, much of which has little to do with the city. Another tourist areas locals love to live in and visit is Springfield and the Shawnee National Forest.

Too many people outside the Midwest assume everyone from a rural area lives on a farm. There are plenty of other cities and small towns that are nowhere near fields.

Actually, the Midwest is known for being accent-less. Though some regions of the state might speak with some weird inflections, most of us are fairly monotone.

Most people from Illinois, even those from small towns, go to public school like just about everyone else. Many of our parents go back to work, so it's off to school for youngins.

Insert Navy Pier or any other Chicago attraction your non-Illinois friends and families always ask to visit. It's true these museums and boardwalks are fun, but Illinois has much more to offer.
