There’s something about craft shows that is simply delightful. It’s the idea of making something by hand and sharing it with the community that brings about shared joy. And there’s no better way to celebrate this special kind of local creativity than craft shows. Here are some of the best places to witness the abundance of talent that Illinois artists have to share…and just in time for the holidays!
1. Rockford Arts & Crafts Holiday Spectacular (Rockford)
This year marks the 3rd annual crafts fair in Rockford, IL. Held at the Indoor Sports Center, this event showcases incredible works from local artisans. Visitors can search among handmade quilts, jewelry, candles, apparel, hand decor and more. Event dates: 11/12 - 11/13.
Held at Harper College in Palatine, the Festival of Arst & Crafts is certain to bring about local design and flair in the craftiest ways. Whether you’re on the lookout for truly unique jewelry, gifts, and more, there’s sure to be something in one of the 200 booths to catch your eye. Event dates: 11/12 - 11/13.
As you can tell by the above photograph, the Autumn Festival in Villa Park is a well-attended arts and crafts affair. Since 1994, this event has brought together artists from near and far to celebrate crafting and specialty gifts. It comes as no surprise that the Autumn Festival is rated among the best festivals in the nation. Event dates: 11/17 - 11/20.
This annual non-profit event is one of the highlights of the season for Prospect High School. In addition to local artisans, it’s also the students that create the showcased crafts. Among these beautiful items, you’ll also be in store for concessions, a bake sale, a raffle, and live music. Event date: 11/20.
Take a step back in time and enjoy the beauty and simplicity of items such as handwoven baskets, available at Grayslake’s Festival of Arts and Crafts. Other seasonal items will be available here as well, making for exquisite gifts. Event dates: 11/25 - 11/27.
Handmade for the Holidays is an annual event that features over 30 artisans and their handcrafted items. This event is also family-friendly, featuring Santa Claus and a Kids Craft Corner. The Holiday Open Show will take place during the McHenry County Holiday Faire. Event date: 12/3.
7. Harvest of the Hands Art and Craft Fair (Naperville)
Founded in 1991, the Harvest of the Hands is an event whose proceeds support the mission of the United Methodist Women. Wandering these booths will showcase beautifully made items such as handmade cards, books, quilts, blown glass, and even photography. Event Dates: 12/3 - 12/4.
Is anything better than handcrafted holiday decorations and gifts? When it comes to the Winter Boutique at Vernon Hills, the answer is no. This event offers exquisitely unique items made by local artists and displayed in a fun and playful way. Event date: 12/10.
