While the house was built in 1869, some people think the hauntings date back to the property before the mansion was built, when it was a stop on the Underground Railroad, and home to Native Americans prior to that.

The most grotesque legend involves a little girl being murdered by a janitor who then took his own life, but it appears to be false. But despite the myths, the school is rampant with paranormal activity -- it was even featured on the TV show "Ghost Hunters."
The city even has a haunted church.

The First Unitarian Church dates back to 1905. In 1934, a preacher named Phillip Mercer took his own life there. Since then, there have been reports of strange voices, shadowy figures, and doors locking and unlocking on their own. The piano even plays itself sometimes.
