I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Are you looking for a fun way to get the adrenaline pumping year-round? If you’ve gone go-karting in the past, you know how incredibly exhilarating it can be, but the track was probably outside and only open seasonally. However, Accelerate Indoor Speedway in Mokena has the solution: with two indoor Grand-Prix designed tracks, it not only takes go-karting to the next level but it’s open all year, rain or shine!
At 75,000 square feet, Accelerate Indoor Speedway is the largest indoor go-kart facility in the Prairie State. Inside are two pro tracks, a large arcade, axe throwing, and a restaurant and bar. It's an exciting place to meet up with friends or to bring the family.
The venue's custom tracks are modeled after the Grand Prix and have scoreboards showing the times and results of each race. Each track is named after a city famous for racing: Le Mans and Monaco.
The go-karts here are actually referred to as "pro-karts" and they were designed in Italy with Formula 1 in mind. The electric karts can reach speeds of up to 50 mph and have zero emissions - plus, they can go faster than an old-school go-kart!
Once you experience a pro-kart you will never want to use a regular go-kart again. These high-speed karts at Accelerate take this racing sport to the next level.
Although it's mostly fun and games here, they do take safety very seriously. It's mandatory to watch a safety video before speeding along on the tracks. Helmets are provided and must be worn. Long hair has to be pulled back and no open-toed shoes are allowed in the vehicles which are equipped with four-point safety harnesses and rollbars.
There is a minimum height requirement of 48 inches for junior karts and 56 inches for pro-karts.
Once you're outfitted with a helmet and get strapped in, it's time to race! Ten pro-karts are allowed at a time on each track and there's no speed limit, so feel free to pretend you're on the Autobahn!
You'll feel an adrenaline rush as you twist and turn your way at (almost) breakneck speeds in an attempt to outrace your opponents. Don't forget to check the scoreboard for your time and to see how you placed.
Who wants to race pro-karts now? To plan your high-speed adventure, head on over to the Accelerate Indoor Speedway website and check out all the photos on their Facebook page.
