Also referred to as "the Old Lewiston Grade", the road was originally constructed in 1917. The road is somewhat of an iconic landmark in the town of Lewiston. It was even the subject of the 1950s rock n' roll song called "Hot Rod Lincoln".
The highway was constructed at a time when automobiles were taking over and wagons were quickly becoming outdated. It was considered a huge feat in engineering at the time and a breakthrough in early highway construction.
At less than 10 miles long, the road makes for a great Sunday drive. It's short, curvy, and smooth riding. However, it's best attempted by those who don't get dizzy very easily. The road boasts an impressive 64 curves while traversing 2,000 feet in elevation.
