What are some of the best wildflower hikes in Idaho?
If you are on the lookout for the best spring hikes near you in Idaho, we have a few ideas for you. Here are a few of the best wildflower hikes in Idaho that we really enjoy, and think you will too:
Menan Buttes, Idaho Falls, ID: The fascinating Menan Buttes are ancient tuff cones, which are volcanos that erupt through the groundwater. These 10,000-year-old natural wonders exploded through the cold water of the Snake River. They are the only ones to have done so through freshwater in the United States. Much of the land seems like a barren rocky landscape, but if you get up close and personal you'll discover that there is a lush area of beautiful wildflowers in the North Menan Butte.
Cougar Bay Nature Preserve, Coeur d'Alene, ID: This is one of our favorite places to go on a nature walk near Coeur d'Alene. The rich wetlands are home to 34 rare animal species many of which are birds that you can catch a glimpse of flitting from tree to tree. The walking trails start near the marsh but head into the forest with an overview of the bay. During wildflower season, you'll be treated to beautiful batches of flowers along your hike.
Camel's Back Trails Loop, Boise, ID: You'll find this trail in the Camel’s Back and Hulls Gulch Reserve - a super cool spot near Boise. The trail is only about 1.7 miles but there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy this beautiful area within view of the city. When you climb the stairs to the overlook you can see incredible views of Treasure Valley. When hiking in the spring and summer months you'll be able to spot plenty of gorgeous wildflowers, too.To say that Idaho has a few wildflower hikes to enjoy is like saying we only have a few potato farms. Good thing for us outdoor lovers we have plenty of choices when it comes to throwing on a well-worn pair of hiking shoes and seeing where they lead us.
