For a laid-back, “tropical” destination, Idaho is not typically synonymous with beach getaways. But there are more than a few beaches dotting the state that will change your mind.

The Gem State’s Panhandle is already known for its idyllic lakes and picturesque natural beauty; truth be told, there’s no single bay in North Idaho that isn’t a scenic, magical place to kick back and unwind. Fortunately, Idaho’s sand beaches are underrated hot spots since you have to know where to find and access them – go too far north and you’ll find yourself spreading that beach towel on top of rocks!

There’s a beach on Priest Lake, however, that will make you feel like you’re in your own island paradise, but without the extra paddle. Trees, crisp, sandy beachfront, endless water views, and of course, some of the best camping our state has to offer:

On the west bank of lower Priest Lake, one sandy, secluded bay stands out a little from the rest and offers perfect lake views: Luby Bay.

Fortunately, if it gets too hard to drag yourself away from the panoramic views of Idaho's Crown Jewel, the Luby Bay Campground offers large, secluded spaces.

Campsites are shaded by dense Hemlock and Cedar which add privacy and an added wilderness-type experience.

Of course, fees and stay duration restrictions apply. Keep in mind, these are primitive sites - that means pack-in/pack-out and a cautious respect for wildlife. Keep it clean!
For even more beachy beauty, Luby Bay has both an upper and lower section.

An amphiteather is located in the recreation area, where you'll have the opportunity to catch education sessions, music, and meet locals.
Or, if rustic luxury is more your style, the Hill's Resort is just over a mile up the beach.

While paddling into Luby Bay is an option, driving, biking, or hiking in are all options as well, making getting here just as much of an adventure as your stay.

While here, many visitors enjoy kayaking or canoeing up the 3.5-mile Thoroughfare that leads to the Upper Priest Lake Scenic Area, which can't be accessed by car. This little stretch of water is as shaded and tranquil as they come!.
