Here in the Gem State, we don’t mind doing things a little bit differently. The quirky oddity shop featured here perfectly exemplifies just that. From big game busts to antique tools, you’ll find a little bit of everything inside of the store that calls itself the weirdest shop in the Northwest. Not to mention, this is the only place in the state—heck, maybe even the country—that you’ll see a “mummified mermaid.” Don’t quite believe it? There’s only one way to truly understand this shop’s strangeness, and that’s by stopping in for yourself!
Founded in 1983, North Idaho Trading Company in Wallace is a unique little antique shop that is full of the most bizarre odds and ends. Known as the "weirdest little shop in the Northwest," there's simply never a dull moment spent inside of this place!
Best described as an oddity shop, North Idaho Trading Company is full of both modern and antique items from floor to ceiling. From the moment you step through the front door, you'll be simply overwhelmed by how much there is to look at.
As you peruse the store's endless selection of items, you're bound to find things like firearms, taxidermy, jewelry, retro toys, vintage clothing, and remnants of local history. There's simply no limit to the types of treasures you'll stumble across.
However, the most bizarre item by far is the six-foot-tall "mummified mermaid" and full-body articulated human skeleton. Yeah, that's definitely something you don't get to see every day. Other taxidermy specimens you can spot in the store include a lion, giraffe, hippo, and bison.
Of course, you'll come across a fair share of antiques during your time in this wacky little shop. Many of the items are far from what you'd come across in a typical antique store and include everything ranging from an entire jail cell to a vintage pinball machine.
It only makes sense that a quirky business like this would exist in none other than Wallace, Idaho. After all, the town does call itself "The Center of the Universe." It's places like North Idaho Trading Company that really showcase the town's unique local flavor, and for that we are definitely grateful.
