Tucked away near the small town of Fairfield, you will find the Camas Prairie-Centennial Marsh Wildlife Management Area. This incredible area is approximately 3,100 acres and is an aquatic and upland habitat for all types of waterfowl and shorebirds. But, it is also home to one of the most incredible natural wonders in Idaho — the Camas Lily bloom.
The Camas Prairie-Centennial Marsh WMA is one beautiful destination if you want to spend some time outdoors, birdwatch, capture photos, and admire Idaho's natural beauty. This area sits at the base of the Bennett Hills and is typically comprised of grasslands and marsh. But, every year, this area transforms into something quite spectacular.
While open year round, one of the best times to visit this WMA is from late May to early June when you can observe the Camas Lily bloom. While you can see these flowers throughout the state, there is truly no view like you will find at this wildlife management area.
During this annual natural wonder, the meadows transform into a sea of purple. This is one of the most visited times at the WMA and one event you will certainly want to have a camera with you.
The Camas Lily bloom is more than just a beautiful sight, but it is also a reminder of Idaho's history. For years, the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes would collect Camas Lily bulbs and use them for food.
Humans aren't the only ones who will enjoy this incredible wonder. During a visit to the Camas Prairie-Centennial Marsh WMA, look out for various wildlife who also want to enjoy the mesmerizing views.
Unfortunately, the weather can determine how long this spectacular scene lasts. Snow, rain, wind, and other harsh elements can shorten the length of the bloom — and this is one sight that you will certainly want to see at its peak.
Have you seen the Camas Lily bloom at the Camas Prairie-Centennial Marsh WMA? We’d love to hear all about your experience. Don’t forget to include photos as well!
