Looking for a new adventure to accomplish? The Mineral Ridge National Recreation Trail is the perfect thing. Located in Coeur d'Alene, it boasts plenty of natural beauty, some unique history, and the most incredible vista at the very end.
The Mineral Ridge Trail is a must for any Idaho hiker, especially since it was the first BLM recreation site developed in the state! Initially developed in 1963, people have been enjoying this wonderful trail for decades and it still hasn't gotten old.
The trail is just 3.3-miles long, but you'll be in awe from beginning to end. Interpretive signs contain a wealth of information on the region's plants and animals and are located at 22 marked stations along the trail.
The trail makes a slow and steady climb up to Mineral Ridge, taking you through gorgeous pine forests and jaw-dropping overlooks along the way. At one point, you'll even come across the historic Caribou Cabin.
From the cabin, a brief spur trail takes you to the remnants of an old abandoned mine. The mine is a good reminder of the rich history this area contains and it makes for an interesting little side trip.
The farther along the trail you go, the better the views seem to get. Hikers are rewarded with lovely views of Lake Coeur d'Alene in the distance, completely surrounded by endless forest-covered hills.
Finally, the top of the trail gives you the most incredible view of the surrounding area. You'll wish you could stay here forever just to take it all in.
