Although many Idahoans tend to stay in the state their entire life, there are many who decide to venture out and live somewhere else. If you’re one of those people who decided to live out of state for awhile, you’ve probably realized that there are some “Idaho mannerisms” you just can’t get rid of. These undying habits will stay with you forever, but that’s okay. We don’t really want to get rid of them anyway. How many of these do you catch yourself doing?
1. Forever pronouncing Moscow the "Idaho way".
Whenever you see the word "Moscow" in reference to Russia, you just can't help but pronounce it Mos-koh. That's the only correct way of pronouncing it 'round these parts, anyway!
2. Eating local.
Food just tastes better when you know it was grown right here in Idaho. Agriculture is a huge industry here in the Gem State and we like to support our farmers and ranchers. Grocery store or farmers market? I think we all know the correct choice.
3. Dirtying up our personal belongings.
It's pretty normal to see muddy trucks and dirtied boots around here. Who has time to clean those types of things anyway? Besides, getting dirty is a sign of having fun. It's not a bad thing!
4. Indulging our endless sense of adventure.
It's hard to contain the craving for adventure that we seem to constantly have. The only cure is to go out and explore our great outdoors...which we do very often.
5. Picking a berry when you see it.
Huckle berry, that is. We just can't help to pick a few handfuls (or bags) of these delicious little things. After all, we need to stock up on enough berries to last us the entire year.
6. Waving to a stranger. Or just being nice in general.
Being nice is in our blood. We can't help but smile and say hello to strangers we pass on the street. Call us crazy, but we also really enjoy holding the door open for people behind us and saying "please" and "thank you".
7. Stopping whatever we're doing to gaze at the sky during sunset.
Have you seen an Idaho sunset? They are spectacular and unlike anything you've seen before. It may be a daily occurrence, but Idahoans can't help but to stop and stare in awe.
8. Pretending swimming pools don't exist.
Why would you swim in a pool when your state is full of lovely natural swimming pools like this one? It would be a crime to ignore these beautiful swimming holes. Swimming in a pool just isn't the same thing.
9. Looking towards the mountains wherever we are.
We're used to seeing the mountains along the horizon constantly. If you've ever moved to a "flat" state, you'll know the sense of sadness that comes with looking out at a mountain-less horizon. How could you even live like that?
10. Always returning back home.
Although not true for everyone, many Idahoans find themselves moving back home after living away from the Gem State. Sometimes it takes living somewhere else in order to fully appreciate just how special our lovely Idaho truly is.
