Who said you had to travel to the coast to visit a sandy beach? Idaho may be a landlocked state but we are home to an endless amount of gorgeous beaches. In fact, the sandy beach featured here is downright gorgeous and could rival any coastal beach. Although the beach is a popular spot among locals, most visitors don’t even realize this beach exists until they stumble upon it by accident. After all, this is one of those places that you would never expect to find in a small town in North Idaho. Once you visit, you’ll be blown away by the pristine beaches and its unique character. Take a look:
Hiding out in Sandpoint is one of the loveliest sandy beaches in all of Idaho. City Beach just proves that landlocked states can have magnificent beaches, too!
City Beach consists of 22 acres and is considered one of Sandpoint's oldest and most beloved parks. The park was donated to the city in 1922 by the Northern Pacific Railroad and has been one of the top summertime destinations in town ever since.
The park contains what seems to be miles of sandy shoreline along the vast and beautiful Lake Pend Oreille. You'll see plenty of locals taking advantage of this fantastic beach on a hot day, but don't worry. There's plenty of room for everyone to enjoy their own space.
Bring your blankets, chairs, and plenty of beach toys! You could spend hours soaking up both the sunshine and the views at this incredible beach. Surrounding the lake are endless views of the most stunning forest-covered hills.
The beach is the main attraction but you'll find that there's plenty to keep you entertained at City Beach. The park contains all kinds of amenities such as basketball courts, volleyball courts, picnic shelters, horseshoes, playgrounds, and lots more.
Sandpoint is a lovely town with unique characteristics, and this beach is no different. You'll certainly come across some quirky features at City Beach including a miniature Statue of Liberty in the lake.
The statue is thought to be about 1/50th of the actual height of New York's Statue of Liberty and it's situated at the end of a concrete pier in the lake. You can walk right up to it and take in the weirdness for yourself.
But wait, there's another quirky thing about this beach. If you're lucky, you'll visit the beach on a day that Pirate Dan's ship can be found floating amid the waters. Yep, this is a real pirate ship and kids (and adults) are welcome aboard to live out their dreams of being a pirate at sea.
Are you ready for a beach day? You'll find this one-of-a-kind waterfront park at 58 Bridge St, Sandpoint, ID 83864.
