From bizarre experiences, awkward encounters, and moments that test your patience to fond memories that are unique to Idahoans… people in the Gem State encounter a lot on a daily basis. Sometimes, you just have to sit back and poke a little fun at those moments — after all, we’re tough enough to handle it! But no matter how long you’ve been here or what part of the state you’re from, here are 14 experiences every true Idahoan has had at least once.
1. You've been chased by just about every barnyard animal there is, and then some.
Goose, bull, rowdy rooster... surely I'm not the only one?
2. You've legitimately been stuck in an Idaho traffic jam a time or two and wound up late to work, school, or another event.
We've all been there. Just remember that this too shall (eventually) pass.
3. If not, you've had to patiently endure another type of traffic jam.
4. You've seriously feared for your life while driving on a rail-less, winding mountain road.
And if another car comes from the other direction, you'll feel your life flash before your eyes.
5. You've had a stop sign stand-off, because everyone is too nice to go first.
6. You've blinked and missed the small town you were supposed to be looking for.
7. You've gone backwoods camping at some point and heard the rustling of a bear or wolf.
8. You've hit a pothole so deep it's a wonder you made it out alive.
9. You've no doubt experienced the horror of a Mormon Cricket swarm.
The real deal is a pretty icky sight... so just use your imagination with this dramatization, instead.
10. You've had to use both the AC and the heater in the same day.
You've also probably had to switch back and forth between the two over the course of the day.
11. You've gotten stuck in the mud or snow -- or both, depending on the season -- at least once.
Four-wheel drive can only do so much!
12. You've been startled awake by an unexpectedly loud train whistle in the distance.
13. You've gone on a road trip and experienced sagebrush deserts, flowering meadows, rolling hills, and vibrant green mountainscapes all in the same day.
Idaho's diversity is unexpected and wonderful, isn't it?
14. You've looked around and thought how great it is to live in God's country.
And how you couldn't imagine being anywhere else.
