Tropical isn’t exactly the first thing you think of when you think of Idaho. We may have beaches, but they’re more the forest-y, lake type (not the palm trees and giant, rip roaring waves type). However, it can be fun to pretend and Reef in Boise, Idaho gives you that opportunity by bringing a taste of the tropical to our state. If you haven’t visited already, then this restaurant should definitely be on your summer bucket list. Take a look!
You'll find Reef in the heart of downtown Boise at the intersection of 6th and Main Streets. Here, Tiki culture is alive and well and waiting to be enjoyed by you. Once you enter, you'll definitely feel like you're not in Idaho anymore.
Upon entering the restaurant you'll notice the intricate and beautiful decor. An ornate and locally hand blown glass chandelier welcomes you in right away. You'll instantly feel like you've been transported far from Idaho to some sort of tropical paradise!
The inside of the restaurant doesn't miss a beat with the tropical island theme. Although a lot of Tiki restaurants tend to come off as gimmicky or gaudy, that certainly isn't the case for Reef. It takes the tropical theme, modernizes it, and makes it cool again! Who knew it was possible to feel so classy while sipping on an umbrella drink?
Surfboards and Tiki figures adorn the walls creating a perfectly exotic ambiance. Reef also doubles as a prominent music venue for the Boise area, so you can enjoy some live music while munching on some delicious island cuisine!
Now lets get to the best part, the tropical themed drinks! Along with their many delicious cocktails, Reef is famous for their "party bowl" drinks. These gargantuan cocktail drinks are served in a literal bowl, that is then lit on fire and brought out for you to enjoy! Can it get any better than this?
And of course the food does not disappoint. The menu consists of American food with an "island twist", mainly steak and seafood (and the jerk chicken is a must try!). They definitely don't mess around when it comes to portion sizes. The Mondo Pupu Platter pictured here truly lives up to its name!
Most dishes come with a choice of regular or voodoo fries, in which you should definitely opt for the voodoo! And remember, if you're stuck on what to order... you can never go wrong with the tacos!
Enjoy a warm summer night on their rooftop balcony! This is truly like dining in a little slice of paradise, with tiki torches abundant and bamboo bountiful. The view of downtown Boise from the roof doesn't hurt either!
