January is a time for you to think about all the things you’d like to accomplish in the New Year, and most importantly, of all the places you’d like to visit. Because of this, a plethora of “Best Destinations To Visit In 2019” lists have been published by popular travel publications like Lonely Planet. Well, it looks like a certain region in Idaho may become a little more popular this year since it was recently included on a list compiled by the L.A. Times. This is definitely exciting news for us since it means that Idaho is finally getting the national attention that it deserves. So if you have yet to visit this place, you’ll want to make this the year that you finally do. After all, it’s officially a top destination to visit in 2019!
It's no secret among Idahoans that the Sun Valley and Ketchum area is a top destination to visit in the Gem State, particularly during the winter. However, this region just got some serious national acclaim when it made an L.A. Times list of "The Top 10 Places To Visit In 2019".
The list features places from not just all over the country, but all over the world. The top three destinations were Belize, Copenhagen, and Chile, just to give you an idea. And coming in at number six? Idaho's very own Ketchum and Sun Valley.
The area has been highly regarded as a winter destination ever since the Sun Valley Resort opened in 1936. It's definitely a haven for skiers and snowboarders. However, there's a lot more to this region than the slopes. Although, the slopes are pretty fantastic!
For one, the food scene is constantly growing and it's far from what you'd expect out of a remote mountain area. Restaurants like Cristina's, Enoteca, and the Pioneer Saloon are constantly putting this region on the map when it comes to top tier food.
When it comes to art and culture, Sun Valley and Ketchum are certainly not lacking. In fact, a fancy new venue called The Argyros Peforming Arts Center just opened last November and it's expected to host a myriad of events from opera and ballet to film festivals and local musicians.
It's pretty hard to get bored in this region of the state. With the Sawtooth National Recreation Area just a stone's throw away, adventure is always calling. Opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing, and horseback riding are abundant and are begging to be taken advantage of.
Plenty of acclaimed individuals, ranging from Ernest Hemingway to Arnold Schwarzenegger, seem to agree. Both Sun Valley and Ketchum are one-of-a-kind destinations that must be experienced. Make 2019 the year that you do!
