Being a desert, Idaho’s summers can get to be pretty unbearable. Right now we are in the thick of it and a lot of people are looking for new and exciting ways to cool off. If you’re looking for something that isn’t a public pool, or a beach that isn’t packed full of people, then you’re going to want to check out these lesser known swimming spots in Idaho. Avoid the crowds and visit one of these spots for an unforgettable summer experience!
Monkey Rock is approximately a 15 minute drive from Rexburg, Idaho. This spot got its name from the thrill seekers who jump off from the top of the picturesque waterfall into the water below. It's advised that you should watch out for rocks if you choose to do this. The water is quite cool, which is definitely welcomed by swimmers during the hot summer months.
This spot is located in Sun Valley, Idaho, behind Big Wood Church. It's named after, well, a big rock on the river. Although a quaint swimming spot, the pool is deep and makes for a great place to splash around.

Edson Fichter is a scenic swimming spot near Pocatello, Idaho along the Portneuf River. The pond itself is mainly a fishing spot, but if you continue down Beverly Trail you will arrive at the shaded swimming pond. Take a spin on the rope swing!

At first, the chain-link fences and signs may make it seem like you're in the wrong place. However, Ritter Island is a great, well-kept swimming spot for the family. It boasts an outstanding view of Minnie Miller Falls and is ideal for making summer swimming memories. Ritter Falls is located in Thousand Springs State Park in Hagerman, Idaho.

Located in the southwest corner of Lake Pend Oreille, the bay's dock is used primarily for boats exploring the lake. It can be accessed from following a trail starting at nearby Beaver Bay.
Bear Lake is easily one of the most beautiful beaches in Idaho. Although it's a popular spot for swimmers, the beach provides approximately two miles of shoreline to share with other swimmers. Located near the border of Idaho and Utah, the lake also has various amazing campgrounds surrounding it, making it a great overnight stay.
Located in Hagerman, Malad Gorge seems to only have recently started gaining popularity as a swimming spot. The gorge's waters are pretty shallow, so the term swimming is being used loosely. However, many locals use this spot as a place to soak their feet on hot days. This spot makes for a great low-key day of swimming!
