Check out one of Idaho's most gorgeous swimming holes when you plan a trip to Beaver Bay Beach near Athol. This dreamy spot is the perfect place to splash, swim, and soak to your heart's content this summer.
Considered a part of Farragut State Park, you'll find this idyllic beach area by a narrow spit at the southern end of Lake Pend Oreille. Boasting shallow and warm water, it's become a hot spot for swimmers looking for some fun in the sun.
Although the bay feels tucked away, it's actually pretty easy to get to. All you have to do is hop onto the Beaver Bay Shoreline Trail which is a short loop trail that connects Beaver Bay to Whitetail Campground. It's a four-mile loop that's easily accomplished by hikers of all skill levels.
You can even access the beach by a road from Gilmore Campground. However, the shoreline trail definitely boasts better views! You'll find a parking area complete with restrooms located just up the road from Beaver Bay.
Upon arrival, you'll have your choice between two bodies of water which are both accessed via the spit. Bring an inner tube and all of your beach toys, but remember that hard-bottomed boats such as canoes are prohibited.
The unique horseshoe shape of the bay makes it easy to scout out your own slice of the shoreline if you desire a little more privacy. Additionally, the views of the surrounding forest are simply breathtaking and will make you feel as if you've entered some sort of natural oasis.
