Besides the beautiful Sunken Gardens at Lava Hot Springs, there are plenty of other activities in this charming small town in Idaho. If you find yourself planning a visit, check out a few of these things to do in Lava Hot Springs Idaho:

  • Go tubing on the Portneuf River: The Portneuf River has been rated as the best float river in the US. It has a nice mix of gentle segments and exhilarating rapids. You can even tumble over the Portneuf Falls, but don't worry it isn't quite as scary as that might sound. The best time to float the river is from May through October. The Portneuf River is also fantastic for kayaking as well.
  • Lava Zipline and Adventure Course: If you enjoy death-defying heights and flying through the air with the greatest of ease, you'll love a trip to Lava Zipline. Not only can you enjoy the giant biplane ride, but they have a ropes course that is included in the price of admission. Even cooler is that you will be picked up in Lava Hot Springs by a camo-green army truck and taken to the course.
  • Camp, hike, and fish at Smith's Trout Haven: This humble spot just a few minutes from Lava Hot Springs' downtown makes for a nice quiet retreat. The campground has two trout ponds where you can try your luck at catching dinner. Smith's Trout Haven makes for a great base camp for a float down the Portneuf River, hitting the hot springs in town, or going on a zipline adventure.

Of course, the main attraction in Lava Hot Springs is the geothermal pools that can be enjoyed any time of year day and night.
