Hiding inside of Thousand Springs State Park is a little known place called Ritter Island. This portion of the park is unknown to most, but its hiding some truly incredible beauty.
The island is accessible via a footbridge and it's open year round Thursday through Monday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. However, you can paddle around the island anytime from dawn until dusk.
This is where you'll get the best view of the springs flowing down the Snake River cliffs. It's an astonishing sight that will leave you totally mesmerized.
During the summer, you'll often see people kayaking or paddleboarding around the island. There's really no better way to cool off on a hot day than by soaking in these delightful waters!
Ritter Island is truly an oasis of wildlife and natural beauty. Birders will be pleased to know that there is a wide variety of bird species that can be found here including warblers, orioles, and great blue herons. Oh, and the fishing is abundant. Large trout are known to hang out around the island.
