Grandpa's Southern BBQ couldn't be any more unassuming. Located in a small restaurant attached to a motel, this place certainly doesn't draw attention to itself. However, the quality of the food speaks volumes and you'll definitely want to try it.
The owner of Grandpa's Southern BBQ, Lloyd Westbrook, first opened the restaurant in 1995. Westbrook grew up in Hickman, Kentucky and created Grandpa's Southern BBQ in his grandfather's honor, using special recipes that have been passed down through his family. The restaurant has moved quite a bit over the years, but their deliciously authentic southern BBQ has stayed the same.
Westbrook prepares the meat in what's called "The Pit", located right in front of the restaurant, and creates the mouthwatering side dishes using authentic southern traditions. This place really is like a little slice of the South right here in Idaho.
On the menu, you'll find a variety of classic barbecue dishes, including brisket, baby back ribs, rib tips, chicken, and more. You better bring an appetite because you won't be able to resist trying a little bit of everything.
Of course, there's no better way to finish off a Southern BBQ dinner than by digging into a slice of homemade pie. Grandpa's is famous for their sweet potato pie, but they also serve pecan, buttermilk, and peach cobbler.
It just goes to show that you can never judge a restaurant by its appearance or location. Grandpa's Southern BBQ may not look like much, but it's bound to become one of your favorite spots for some lip-smackin'-good barbecue. Visit them at 1540 W Broadway St, Idaho Falls, ID 83402.
