With more than two dozen state parks scattered across the Gem State, there is plenty to do and see in Idaho. While we love our state parks, many of the larger state parks seem to take the spotlight. But, there is one small state park that we highly recommend and that is a hidden gem worth exploring — Lake Walcott State Park. At just over 60 acres, this state park is definitely tiny but mighty. Spending time here is one adventure that you will not want to miss.
Lake Walcott State Park is located approximately 10 miles northeast of Rupert. It is one of the smallest state parks in Idaho with 65 acres waiting to be explored.
During your visit, you can also just walk around one of the many paved trails. The paths are an excellent way to explore the state park and you may even come across some wildlife on your journey.
For a day trip with the entire family, bring a lunch and sit in one of the delightful picnic areas. Picnic shelters are available with lots of shade and plenty of grass, perfect for relaxing and spending some time outdoors.
Even better, Lake Walcott is a lesser-known and underrated state park in Idaho. This means that you are more likely to enjoy some quiet during your visit.
Whether you come for a day, weekend, or even a week, this small state park in Idaho is certainly worth exploring. Doesn't time here sound heavenly?
Have you been to Lake Walcott State Park? If so, what were your favorite activities at this park? Let us know in the comments! You can learn more about this Idaho state park on the Idaho State Parks and Recreation website.
Also along Lake Walcott is the Minidoka National Wildlife Refuge. Grab your camera and spend some time in this refuge during your visit. It’s a beautiful destination with wildlife and incredible Idaho views.
