Idaho is known for its potatoes. But, did you know that there is a small town in Idaho that is actually considered the Potato Capital of the World? It’s true! That small town is charming, offers plenty to see and do, and is considered a must-visit town in the Gem State – that town is Blackfoot in southeastern Idaho.
Blackfoot, Idaho, is located along Interstate 15 between Pocatello and Idaho Falls. Approximately 12,300 people call this town home.
Blackfoot is known as a quaint and quiet place to live but it’s much more than just that. It is known as the Potato Capital of the World, and it received this title because it boasts the largest potato industry in any one area.
This unique museum will teach you all about the history of potatoes, the growing and harvesting process, and more. It is also home to several unique exhibits and artifacts like the world’s largest potato chip and baked potato. It's no wonder Blackfoot is the potato capital of the U.S. - and the world.
While the Idaho Potato Museum is one of the most popular attractions in Blackfoot, there are still many places around town that you will want to visit including Jensen’s Grove and the greenbelt.
The greenbelt is a 6.5-mile paved trail that connects multiple communities and neighborhoods together in the Greater Blackfoot Area. At the south end, you will find Jensen Grove Park. This popular outdoor area boasts lots of green space, a disc golf course, playgrounds, and more.
But, of course, no trip to Blackfoot is complete without a stop at my favorite candy store — The Candy Jar.
This candy store is not only located inside a beautiful historic building in Old Town Blackfoot, but it is home to all types of handmade sweets. I highly suggest the fudge — one piece will not be enough!
Blackfoot, Idaho may be the Potato Capital of the World but it is so much more — it is home to unique museums, outdoor recreational opportunities, lovely shops, and friendly people. It’s one small town in Idaho that you’ll love to visit.
