Bruneau is a small town in Idaho that is known for its incredible natural wonder — the Bruneau Sand Dunes. This is a bucket-list-worthy destination and one that we strongly recommend every Idahoan explore at least once. But, Bruneau is also near C.J. Strike Reservoir, a hidden gem that makes for the perfect summer day trip destination. This reservoir in Idaho is a wonderful place for some time outdoors, on the water, and with family.
C.J. Strike Reservoir is located just a short distance from the town of Bruneau. It’s one place the entire family will love.
This 7,500-acre reservoir was created in the early 1950s when a dam was built across both the Bruneau and Snake Rivers and it is certainly a beautiful place to spend a day.
This reservoir draws many people due to its incredible fishing opportunities. The boat launching facilities are open all year long and you can catch warm and cold water fish from crappie and bass to rainbow trout and sturgeon.
This isn’t a reservoir where you will find tons of shoreline as much of the reservoir is surrounded by tall cliff walls. But, there are several recreational areas that are perfect for your day (or even night!) on the water.
There is a day-use fee to enter the area and you will find picnic shelters, water, bathrooms, fishing docks, and a small boat ramp, etc. You will find this recreation area approximately eight miles northwest of Bruneau.
If you want to turn your summer day trip into an overnight adventure, Cove Recreation Site also features a small campground. The campsites are first come, first serve, and include fire rings, picnic tables, an RV dump station, water, and more.
If you want to spend your day catching fish or just enjoying the fresh air with friends and family, C.J. Strike Reservoir near Bruneau is one place you’ll want to go. It’s a summer day trip (or camping trip!), that you'll remember for years to come.
