Idahoans are a very particular type of people. We have tough exteriors but we also believe in the power of kindness. In fact, Idahoans are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. However, there are a few things that really get on our nerves. So if you want to stay on our good side, take a look at these 12 things you would never catch an Idahoan doing.
1. Pronounce "Boise" wrong.
Everybody knows the sure way of telling that someone is an out-of-stater is whether they say "Boy-see" or "Boy-zee".
2. Pick a pool over a lake.
With hundreds and hundreds of natural lakes to splash around in, why would anybody ever choose to go to a pool? Nature is our playground!
3. Pass up buying snow tires for winter.
Trust us, you'll need them!
4. Pick out an outfit before checking the weather.
True Idahoans know that weather is simply unpredictable here. One day it could be raining, the next it's completely sunny, and the next it can be snowing! As the saying goes... the only constant is change.
5. Buy a Christmas tree from a store.
Idahoans can't justify going to a store and spending money on a Christmas tree. Why would you do that when you can step right into Idaho's backyard and chop one down yourself?
6. Stay inside all winter.
Yes, it's freezing outside and we can't feel our face... but that doesn't stop us from our favorite time of year (AKA ski and snowboarding season)!
7. Stay inside all summer.
It may be sweltering hot outside but that doesn't stop us from enjoying our beautiful outdoors! You gotta do what you gotta do.
8. Drink imported beer.
Idaho is full of an incredible amount of fantastic local breweries, and we're even one of the biggest producers of fresh hops in the country. Our locally brewed beer tops any import!
9. Tell people to move here.
We love your interest in our beautiful state, and you're welcome to visit... but please don't move here. We're nice people, but we don't like to share.
10. Mess up the pronunciations.
You know you're an Idahoan when you don't flinch at pronouncing "Coeur d'Alene" or "Pend Oreille". And you know the correct way of pronouncing "Moscow" (Hint: it's not the same as the capital of Russia).
11. Complain about the cost of living.
No Idahoan would complain about how expensive it is to live in Idaho because we all know it's actually incredibly cheap! That's why it's the best place to live in the country.
12. Move away and never, ever come back.
You can take the person out of Idaho but you can't take Idaho out of the person! Life is unpredictable and may lead you away from Idaho, but no matter what, Idaho will always hold a special place inside of you and you always know you can come back anytime (in fact, you probably will)!
