Ocean beaches are great and all, but they’ve got nothin’ on lake beaches—at least, that’s our humble opinion. Idaho is home to hundreds of fantastic lakes and many of them make for great beach day destinations. In fact, central Idaho’s Redfish Lake is a long-beloved summer destination for Gem State residents, as it boasts some downright stunning beaches. One of these beaches is Orval Hansen Point Beach and we just can’t get over its incredible alpine beauty. Plan a visit to this scenic beach and you may find that you just can’t bring yourself to leave its sandy white shoreline.
Surrounded by towering mountains and thick forest landscapes, it's no wonder why Redfish Lake is one of the most beloved summer destinations in the state. Simply nothing can beat this view, especially in the summertime
One of the best places to soak up these spectacular views is Orval Hansen Point Beach, located right along the lake's northern shore. Boasting a sandy white shoreline and deep blue waters, it rivals even the most beautiful coastal beach.
Redfish Lake is the largest lake in the famous Sawtooth National Recreation Area. It's a recreational haven for outdoor enthusiasts and has become a popular spot for fishing, boating, kayaking, and swimming.
The 4.5-mile-long lake was formed by a gigantic glacier that receded after the Little Ice Age ended. The cold waters of this alpine lake are especially refreshing on those hot summer days!
Orval Hansen Point Beach boasts a fantastic swimming area where you can set out your beach chair and enjoy a few hours of quiet mountain solitude. Additionally, there are docks that make boat launching especially convenient.
Situated right behind the beach is Point Campground, a tent-only campground that's considered one of the best in the area for its serene setting and convenient beach access. Reservations can be made on the Forest Service website for May through September.
Your summer simply won't be complete until you've spent some time soaking up the beauty at Redfish Lake. Orval Hansen Point Beach is the place to do just that, so definitely consider it for your next beach day.
