When you feel like getting some fresh air, a walk through a public garden is the perfect thing. Hiding out in the town of Ketchum is an especially otherworldly garden that showcases a breathtaking display of plant life. The Sawtooth Botanical Garden is where people can visit to forget about the outside world and instead find themselves swept away by the garden’s breathtaking array of beauty. See this natural wonderland for yourself and stop by for a visit!
Open daily from dawn to dusk, the Sawtooth Botanical Garden is a fascinating place to wander. It's filled with a vast array of gorgeous native and cultivated plants that can thrive in high-altitude conditions.
The garden was founded in 1994 by a small group of passionate gardeners and environmentalists. It was created as a place where the community can come to understand and explore plant life, and it has inspired countless nature lovers since its inception.
There are several sections of the garden to explore. One of the most photogenic spots can be found in the Garden of Infinite Compassion. Created in 2005 to honor the visit of the Dalai Lama to the Wood River Valley, this quiet spot is just as magical as it sounds.
In all, there are five major biomes represented throughout the garden. These are reflected in the following sub-gardens: Sagebrush Steppe garden, Lava Rock garden, Alpine garden, Montane garden, and Riparian garden. Definitely be sure to seek all of them out!
Walking through the garden is a visual feast for the eyes, but it's also educational. In keeping with the mission of the Sawtooth Botanical Garden, there are numerous displays throughout the garden that demonstrate how these plants can be used throughout the Wood River Valley.
The Sawtooth Botanical Garden is a nonprofit that's fully supported by contributions and admission fees. Admission costs just $5 for an individual or $10 for a family or couple from May 1 through October 31. The fee can be paid inside the Visitor Center or in the kiosk donation box.
