Rush hour traffic is a pain no matter what city you’re in. However, it turns out that rush hour is much, much worse depending on where in the U.S. reside. That shouldn’t come as a shock, but the fact that Boise, Idaho was named the worst rush hour city in the country probably will. It’s true. According to a recent study by FleetLogging, Boise has not only one of the worst rush hours in the U.S. but the entire world. Hard to believe? Read on to see how they came to this conclusion.
Rush hour sucks - period. But it turns out some cities have it much worse than others, and perhaps most surprisingly, Boise has it the worst of all in the U.S.
The website FleetLogging recently conducted a study in which they analyzed rush hours across the 141 most congested cities in the world. They did this by calculating how far from each city center you could drive in one hour, during both on- and off-peak hours.
With these two calculations, FleetLogging could conclude which cities have particularly bad rush hour traffic. And yes, the U.S. city with the biggest discrepancy in distance traveled during on- and off-peak hours was our very own Boise, Idaho.
According to the results, you can travel a whopping 14.4 miles further in one hour by waiting for off-peak periods in Boise. In comparison, Philadelphia came in second with a discrepancy of 13.4 miles, and Albuquerque came in third with a discrepancy of 13 miles.
If that wasn't bad enough, Boise even made an appearance near the top of the worldwide charts! Boise came in fifth worldwide. Three French cities took the top of the list, with Marseille in first (22.8 miles), Lyon in second (21.6 miles), and Paris in third (17.5 miles.)
We're not going to lie, we're a bit surprised by these findings! Although, a few contributing factors could be the city's marked rise in population during the past few years and the lack of convenient public transportation.
What do you think? Are you shocked to find that Boise is the worst rush hour city in the U.S.? Be sure to check out the nifty graphs and charts that FleetLogging compiled for even more information about rush hours across the U.S. and the world.
