Lake Cascade is a bucket-list destination in the Gem State. Located north of Boise and just a short drive from McCall, this gorgeous body of water is 47 square miles, making it the fourth largest reservoir in Idaho. And while there are plenty of places to glamp or even reserve a cozy vacation rental, we recommend a night under the stars, and the perfect place to get away from it all is the Rainbow Point Campground.
Located on the western shore of Lake Cascade is Rainbow Point Campground. From the minute you arrive, you’ll be inspired by this Idaho campground’s beauty.
Don’t be surprised if you see wildlife of all kinds during your stay. As the campsites sit next to the lake, it isn't uncommon to see birds of all types including pelicans and bald eagles. You may even see larger animals like deer walk through camp as well.
This isn’t a large campground. In fact, there are only 12 campsites here. You can place reservations for several of these campsites but for others, they are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Each campsite comes equipped with essential amenities including a picnic table, campfire ring, and a grill. There are also vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection. Electricity is not available.
If you are lucky, you may even stay in a campsite with lake or shore access. If so, you can easily spend your time out on the water fishing, kayaking, or just enjoying the views.
If you don’t stay at a lake-access campsite, that’s okay. There are plenty of spots around the lake where you can easily hop in and out of the water.
Rainbow Point Campground near Donnelly, Idaho is typically open from May through September each year. Keep in mind there is a nightly fee and an additional cost for extra vehicles.
