There is nothing like spending a day at the beach. And while Idaho doesn’t necessarily have tons of beaches to choose from, there are a few inland beaches that are perfect for a day of water, sunshine, and fun. While there are several around the Gem State that I personally love (like the beaches at Redfish Lake and Bear Lake), there is another beach in Idaho that is also worthy of your attention — the beaches at Pettit Lake.
Pettit Lake is one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Idaho. You will find it located in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, approximately 16 miles outside of Stanley and 30 miles northwest of Ketchum.
The minute you arrive at this lake in Idaho, you will be blown away by its beauty. This lake is tucked away next to the Sawtooth Mountains and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a painting when you visit — it’s absolutely gorgeous here.
While there are several things you can do at Pettit Lake in Idaho, such as hiking or camping, one of our favorites is simply spending time along the shore.
While this may not be the most pristine inland beach in Idaho, it is still one that you won’t want to miss. It is hard to beat a day on the sand with views like this …
For time next to the water and along the shore, head to the Pettit Lake Day Use Area. This is a first-come, first-serve area. Here, you will find a boat ramp, picnic tables, and vaulted toilets. You can also swim, fish, or just relax on the shore and it’s perfect for a day outdoors and on the water.
Be aware that there is a small fee to utilize the day-use area and no personal watercraft is allowed on Pettit Lake. But, you'll never be bored. Enjoy the quiet, the views, and the water.
Swim, fish, or just relax on the shore — this is one beach in Idaho where the views are picture-perfect. It’s a little slice of heaven tucked away in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.
