It is no secret that Idaho is home to some of the most amazing and picturesque areas. From the remarkable Sawtooth Mountains to Lake Coeur d’Alene to even City of Rocks, the features around the Gem State are breathtaking. However, did you know that Idaho is also home to the most beautiful hills in America? The popular publication, Country Living, named The Palouse as America’s most beautiful hills and we have to wholeheartedly agree.
The Palouse region is truly one natural wonder in Idaho that is often overlooked but it sure is remarkable – any time of the year.
What’s interesting about the hills in the Palouse is they were formed thousands of years ago. They were made from dust and silt called loess that blew into the area from dust storms.
The Palouse is not only a remarkable landscape, it also produces a substantial amount of wheat. This area produces more wheat per acre than any other region its size in the entire world.
Around harvest time each year, the Palouse turns into waves of gold that are absolutely stunning.
In the spring and early summer months, the hills are a gorgeous green color. This is one of the most beautiful times to drive through and explore the Palouse in Idaho.
Moscow, in Latah County, is one of the best places to enjoy the Palouse in Idaho. No matter which direction you come into town, you’ll drive through the Palouse and receive some of the most mesmerizing views.
You can also ride your bike, run, or walk on the paved Latah Trail that connects Moscow to the small town of Troy. If you travel this entire trail, you'll weave through these beautiful hills and experience their splendor.
