Located near the beautiful small town of Swan Valley in southeastern Idaho is one of the most beautiful reservoirs in Idaho — Palisades Reservoir. This body of water is surrounded by majestic mountains, lush forests, and so much more. It is an outdoor lover’s paradise with all types of recreational activities from boating and swimming to hiking, picnicking, camping, and more. If you are looking for the perfect summer day trip in Idaho, this is it!
Welcome to Palisades Reservoir! No matter what type of outdoor activities you love, you can likely find them here.
Palisades Reservoir is the main star of this area. Boasting more than 70 miles of shoreline, there is plenty of space to spread out and enjoy both the water and the views.
Bring a boat, kayak, or even a stand-up paddle board and spend your time on the water. Around the reservoir, you will find up to six boat ramps, allowing you to get in and out of the water with ease.
While the water is certainly nice, you'll want to spend some time on the shore. You can hop in the water and get your toes wet or just admire the remarkable views that surround you. This area is like a slice of heaven — it’s stunning!
The Palisades Creek Trail is a popular hiking trail in the area and for good reason. This trail takes you to two lakes and if you continue hiking, you’ll come to a beautiful waterfall. And after you are done with your hike, enjoy a picnic at one of the five picnic areas around the reservoir.
While Palisades Reservoir is definitely a delightful day trip destination in Idaho, if you want to spend more time here (and who doesn’t?), there are five campgrounds located around the lake as well.
In these campgrounds, you will find tent and RV camping as well as group camping opportunities. There are also several cabins for rent near the reservoir if you want to stay someplace a little more home-like.
But no matter where you stay, make sure you look up after the sun sets. The night sky here is breathtaking!
With all that Palisades Reservoir has to offer, it is easy to find outdoor activities for your family and that cater to your interests. This is one place in Idaho that you’ll find yourself returning to year after year.
