Not so with the short hike to the gorgeous Packsaddle Lake in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. This .8 mile out-and-back trail leads to the crystal clear waters of Packsaddle Lake. Packsaddle Lake is a hidden gem in southeast Idaho. About 32 miles from Rexburg, this stunning lake is located in the Big Hole Mountains on the western side of Teton Valley.
The Packsaddle Lake Trailhead is located on Packsaddle Lake Road in Tetonia. For the shorter hike, you will want to drive to trailhead marker 212. Visitors have commented that to get to marker 212, you will want 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive. Otherwise, you will want to park at the main trailhead and take the longer hike route.
The trail down to Packsaddle Lake from trail marker 212 is a .8 mile out-and-back trail. While short, the trail can be steep at times, so keep that in mind and be sure to have proper hiking gear!
