There’s something about visiting one of Idaho’s old-fashioned candy shops that never fails to make you feel giddy inside, no matter how old you may be. After all, it’s hard to be anything but downright thrilled when surrounded by delicious homemade sweets. If you’d like a taste of some of Idaho’s most iconic treats, then a visit to Lee’s Candies is a must. Originally opened back in 1947, Lee’s is considered the oldest candy shop in the state. It’s amazing to think this little shop has been around for so long, but we can definitely see why with mouthwatering candies like these!
Lee's Candies has been serving up decadent and quality candies and chocolates to the Treasure Valley since 1947. Located in Boise, it's simply a must for any Idahoan with a sweet tooth.
Lee's Candies represents three generations and over 80 years of candy making excellence, and it definitely shows. Each bite into their smooth, hand-dipped chocolates is like a little slice of heaven in your mouth.
The shop was originally opened in a different location on Boise's Jefferson Street. Founded by candy maker L.G. Nokleby and his son Lee, the store has always focused on a high standard of quality and service that differentiates the shop from larger candy brands.
In fact, the store remains a family business even to this day. Lee's son, Curtis, took over back in 1986 and has held onto the reins ever since. Although much of Boise has changed over the decades, Lee's remains delightfully unchanged. Many of the original recipes used by L.G. Nokleby are still used in the shop today.
Everything about Lee's follows tradition. Over the years, Lee's Candies has developed a solid following of loyal customers who visit the shop specifically for Lee's delicious European-style candies. Each piece of candy is created with Peter's Chocolate, a Swiss chocolate company that's been around since 1875.
When visiting the shop, you can ask for individual chocolates and candies. However, their boxes of chocolates are definitely a popular option. Comprised of a variety of Lee's scrumptious sweets, they make for great gifts—especially if you're the one that ends up receiving it!
Nothing beats chocolate that's been handmade with love and care, and that's exactly what you'll get when you visit the oldest candy shop in Idaho. Lee's Candies is an institution and it's a must for any sweets lover.
Lee's Candies is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
