Idaho is home to incredible natural wonders. From areas like the Palouse and Hells Canyon to Balanced Rock and Shoshone Falls, there are countless places to get out and explore. During the winter, however, there is a natural wonder that becomes even more enchanting — the Boise River. Quite well-known, this natural wonder has become a place of movement, reflection, and pure beauty. And during the winter, it offers all of that and so much more.
The Boise River is a 102-mile tributary of the Snake River. It flows through numerous Idaho cities and tends to draw in a crowd regardless of the season.
If you want to enjoy this river, the Boise River Greenbelt is the best place to go. This is a 25-mile paved path that travels along both the north and south sides of the river and connects nearly a dozen parks in Treasure Valley.
The greenbelt is popular during the summer and fall months, but when the snow starts to fall, the river and trail transform and you’ll feel like you are in the midst of a painting.
It also allows you to surround yourself with natural beauty while in the heart of the city. You don’t have to travel far to enjoy some of Mother Nature’s greatest snowy creations.
I recommend bundling up and sitting along a bench on the greenbelt, enjoying the river scenery. The Boise River is a natural wonder that truly is enchanting in the winter. It’s the perfect place to relax, admire, and fall in love with a winter day in Idaho.
