Stanley Hot Springs can be found in northern Idaho, near the town of Kooskia. Hiding out in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest, this hot spring trail is one of our state's best-kept secrets. Every inch of it boasts tremendous amounts of natural beauty, and it leads you straight to the most magical set of natural pools you've seen.
The trailhead can be located off of Highway 12. Click here to be taken to the AllTrails trail map. Once you set off, you're in for a good 9-mile hike, so be sure to schedule plenty of time to get there and back.
From the moment you embark on the trail, you'll be led into some of the most iconic North Idaho scenery. Mountains and forest will completely surround you, and it feels like you've slipped into some sort of woodland paradise. Wildflowers are abundant, and the trickling of creeks and streams can be heard nearby.
The trail is a gradual uphill climb, so it's definitely manageable even for newbie hikers. In fact, the trail is quite popular among hikers of all skill levels. The hardest part of the trail is crossing Boulder Creek. There isn't a bridge, so hikers have to make do with a fallen log.
After crossing the creek, you'll hike just another half mile before reaching the pools. Once you do, you'll be so glad you made the effort. The four separate pools are absolutely pristine, boasting the most beautiful and crystal clear water.
If you're lucky, you'll have the entire place to yourself. Each pool contains warm spring water that is perfect for relaxing after your long hike. You could easily spend a few more hours just soaking and taking in the gorgeous scenery before heading back to the trailhead.
