Experience the rugged beauty of Idaho's backcountry wilderness when you plan a stay at Carlson Ranch near Riggins. Located along the Salmon River, this historic sheep ranch is a camping destination like no other and its outstanding scenery is bound to leave you in awe.
The Carlson family has lived along this section of the river since the 1920s, back when Gus Carlson first started sheep ranching in the area. The ranch is still in operation to this day, but now it's also an awesome spot for both tent and RV camping.
Sitting right on the banks of the Salmon River and surrounded by towering mountains, the campground's setting is simply awe-inspiring. This is pure Idaho wilderness at its best, and it's absolutely gorgeous all year round.
The campground is outfitted for both tent and RV sites. All campsites boast a magnificent view of the river. Tent sites are $20 per night and RV sites can range between $25-$55 per night, depending on what type of site you reserve. Full hook-ups for RVs are available.
If you'd like something a little more luxurious, consider booking the Gus Creek Cabin. This rustic cabin boasts one bedroom, a loft, full kitchen, and bathroom. Cabin guests will also be treated to a variety of amenities, like access to a private beach, TV, WiFi, covered porch, and more.
Carlson Ranch is a great place to relax, but it's also the perfect basecamp for outdoor adventures. Both helicopter and jet boat tours of the Salmon River are offered by nearby outfitters. Visitors can also rent ATVs for exploring the surrounding area and taking advantage of its abundant fishing, hunting, and hiking opportunities.
