Boise State University draws students from around the country and for good reason. They might be intrigued by the blue turf, the only raptor biology degree in the country, or even the extensive financial aid and scholarships that are offered. And for some, it may be for the city itself. Idaho’s capital city offers something for everyone — history, nature, great food, and unique attractions. Boise may be home to Boise State University, but it’s so much more than your average college town.
Boise is a city with approximately 237,000 residents. However, despite its large size, it’s easy to feel some small-town charm. Boise's nickname is the City of Trees and the tree-lined streets and parks make you feel away from the hustle and bustle and surrounded by nature.
And speaking of nature … you don’t have to travel far outside of the city to immerse yourself in Mother Nature's creations. On the outskirts of the city, you will find Camel’s Back and Hulls Gulch Reserve, an area filled with excellent trails.
We also suggest you head into the Table Rock area to tackle the Table Rock Trail. This may be one of our favorite Boise hikes as you'll trek to incredible views of the city.

Of course, if you want to stay right in the heart of downtown, you can always take a walk along the Boise River Greenbelt.
This greenbelt is ranked as one of the best river walks in the country. This is a 25-mile paved path that’s ideal for walks, runs, bike rides, and more. The path connects multiple towns and parks and even features more than a dozen bridges you can cross.

In the summer months, you can also spend time at nearby state parks like Lucky Peak State Park or Eagle Island State Park.
Shopping opportunities are abundant in the city. Head downtown to browse locally owned businesses or explore the Boise Towne Square and the Vista Village Shopping Center, both large malls that make for quite an afternoon of shopping.
Foodies of all ages will find something to love in Boise. Places like Fork, Antonio’s Kitchen, Little Pearl Oyster Bar, and Boise Fry Co., will tantalize your taste buds. I also recommend visiting Boise Pie Co. and Gastons if you are craving something sweet and unforgettable.
Of course, there are also unique attractions like Freak Alley Gallery, the Old Idaho Penitentiary Site, the Basque Museum & Cultural Center, and the Discovery Center of Idaho.
There’s something special about Boise State University and the above attractions are just the beginning of the wonderful things that stem from this school and the city. So, be proud to wear your college roots and share your Boise pride.
