Located in the heart of downtown Boise, Zoo Boise is one of the finest attractions that our state has to offer. It's not just a zoo, but a massive conservation effort as well. The zoo features a wide variety of exhibits, including the highly anticipated Butterflies in Bloom exhibit.
Every year, Zoo Boise obtains hundreds of butterflies from the only "Costa Rica Entomological Supply" certified butterfly farmers. The butterflies are farmed sustainably in Costa Rica and then brought to Boise to so that visitors can experience their beauty.
As you walk into the butterfly house, you'll be surrounded by hundreds of these amazing insects. Visitors get to experience the sound and feeling of the fluttering butterflies all around them.
Of course the state's own official insect, the Monarch Butterfly, makes an appearance. Every year, thousands of these beauties migrate south to Mexico and then return to Idaho in the spring to reproduce. We're so lucky to be such a prominent part of this butterfly's life cycle.
Zoo Boise has proved themselves as dedicated to restoring the butterfly population in the community. They even partnered with City of Boise to restore and protect the surrounding Boise Foothills so that butterflies can thrive.
The butterfly house is an experience that everyone can appreciate. The house is filled with different types of flowers for pollinating, and the aroma is simply incredible.
