Part of being an Idahoan is feeling the urge to reconnect with nature every once in a while – or, for some of us, more than once in a while! A visit to the Gem State’s gorgeous Sawtooth Wilderness is a great way to do just that. This breathtaking region of central Idaho is home to more hiking trails than you can count, but this one short trail is especially worth checking out. Leading you past a gushing waterfall and a pond covered in lily pads, this 1.4-mile hike is a quick and easy adventure that packs in a ton of beauty.
With so many trails to choose from, exploring the Sawtooth National Recreation Area can feel daunting at first. However, the short and sweet day hike to Lily Pond and Redfish Lake Creek Falls is a fantastic place to start!
This easy, 1.4-mile hike is great for casual hikers and families. It doesn't take long at all to traverse this brief trail but the epic scenery that awaits will have you taking your time to soak it all in.
Access to the trailhead can be found at the south end of Redfish Lake. The best way to get there is by taking the shuttle boat from Redfish Lake Lodge to the Inlet Trailhead. Visit the lodge's website to learn more about the shuttle service.
After the boat drops you off, you'll be able to easily follow the signs that are marked to Lily Lake. With a total elevation gain of just 262 feet, you can expect a steady and easy climb to the pond tucked just off the shore of Redfish Lake.
The pond itself is absolutely stunning! The lilies are known to bloom around the first week of July, but the area is gorgeous any time of year. Covered in lily pads and surrounded by mountains, the pond exudes seclusion and beauty.
There's plenty to explore around the pond, including a waterfall! Next to the pond is a wooden sign that will point you to Redfish Lake Creek Falls. The waterfall's cascade is largest during spring and early summer but is visible year-round.
Rugged mountains, a secluded pond, and a gushing waterfall all combine in this one short hike near Redfish Lake. For a memorable introduction to the Sawtooth Wilderness, look no further!
