Located in Boise's North End neighborhood is the beloved Camel's Back Park. The park has been a popular community space for years. At first, the park looks just like any other. It has a large playground which children will instantly fall in love with.
The park even contains an "adult" playground—an outdoor gym. It's perfect for getting a work out in while the kids play nearby. However, the park's main attraction is the feature which gives the park its weird name.
The steep hill in the middle of the park, commonly just referred to as "Camel's Back Hill", has become a kind of landmark for Boiseans. The hill's odd appearance really resembles a camel's back.
The hill is a popular place for families and hikers since it provides an outstanding view of the entire Treasure Valley. The sight of downtown Boise and the thousands upon thousands of trees (Boise is the City of Trees) is simply breathtaking.
The steep incline is what makes the hill so impressive. Racing up the hill as fast as you can is pretty much a requirement if you visit the park. However, there are less steep trails that lead you to the top of the hill, if you wish.
As you can imagine, Camel's Back makes the perfect sledding hill during winter. On snow days the park is teeming with children and their sleds. The sight of the vast 11 acres covered in stark white snow is delightful.
The trails make for good hiking all year long. You really can't get a better view than this! The park is an underrated destination for out-of-towners, but it goes without saying that every local has climbed Camel's Back at least a couple times.
The hill leads to a variety of hiking trails that lead you further into Boise's beautiful foothills. Camel's Back is truly a hidden gem that should be on every Idahoan's bucket list. You'll find it at 1200 Heron St, Boise, ID 83702.
