Depending on your perspective, topping the charts can either be a blessing or curse. But when it comes to tourism… I think we all have a pretty good idea of which side of the spectrum the industry falls on! Idaho has recently become the country’s latest and hottest destination (we’re one of the top states for incoming population growth), and it seems like we keep making every “best” list in the country for our unique culture and beautiful, overlooked location. But the world seems to have taken notice.
The Gem State’s latest achievement is a well-known annual list of the hottest international travel destinations. And Idaho is the only US state to have made the list, which is quite the accolade, if you think about it!
Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and...Idaho? It's not often that you find the Gem State sharing an international list with such exotic overseas destinations.
Every year, Vogue produces one of the top-read lists of the new year's up and coming travel destinations, based on global trends. Last year, Rio--the home of the most recent Olympics--and Cuba had their time in the spotlight. But this year, the list was a little more... unexpected.
Featuring underrated international cities and countries, Vogue's 10 Hottest Travel Destinations of 2017 includes places like Georgia (the country), Lapakawi, and Jordan.
Every destination has two particular shared features: a recent rise to fame as a "hidden gem" and alternative to nearby major metropolitan areas, and natural beauty that is not only uniquely diverse, but still relatively untouched by modernity.

But this year, the Gem State is single-handedly representing America because, according to Vogue, Idaho is "having a moment."
It's hard to argue that one. Picturesque, easily recognizable by the face of Mt. Baldy, and a definite food mecca, it's hard not to fall in love with the country's original ski resort town and south-central Idaho's gorgeous getaway hub.
But while Idaho is certainly worthy of international recognition…
