Idaho is home to some cool wildlife such as bears, moose, and wolves. However, when you want to see animals up close and in person, you don’t have to travel far. At Idaho’s best-kept secret, the Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park, you can spend a gorgeous day outdoors, enjoying and learning more about all types of creatures. In fact, the Idaho Falls Zoo is known as the best little zoo in the West, and we completely agree.
The Best Little Zoo in the West is located in the beautiful city of Idaho Falls. The zoo sits at Tautphaus Park, Idaho Falls' oldest and largest park.
Despite the zoo being only 7 acres in size, there are certainly many animals to check out. This zoo is home to approximately 300 individual animals and more than 130 different species are represented.
A small children’s zoo is a favorite exhibit among visitors young and old. This area of the zoo is where you can observe several popular farm animals including Wyandotte Chickens, domestic rabbits, a yak, and a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig.
As you roam around the Idaho Falls Zoo, keep your eyes out for the peacocks. You never know where you’ll find them as they wander around the zoo grounds.
As you explore, you'll even come to multiple education stations. Run by trained volunteers, these stations teach guests about specific animals through interactive activities, photos, and more. These stations are a terrific way to make the most out of your trip to this zoo.
The Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park is open from April to October each year. Stop by the zoo’s website and Facebook page to learn more about hours, exhibits, current animals, upcoming events, and more.
