Dedicated to the memory of his late mother and those of hardworking pioneer women, the park was finally established in 1955 but personally funded by McCroskey himself for years.
The forest rises up on either side of the gravel road, creating a stunning transition between the colorful meadows of the Palouse prairie and the foothills of the Rockies as they blend into Washington.
